Air travel is the No. 1 way to arrive in Puerto Vallarta. The Gustavo Diaz
International Airport - just four miles north of downtown - serves Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas.
More than 450 flights per week bring in travelers from all over the globe. Flights are available coast to coast in the
United States and Canada. Follow this link for complete airline information. Puerto Vallarta is also a hub to many other Mexican cities and is served from the following Mexican cities and airlines: Guadalajara (Aeromexico and Mexicana Airlines); Mexico City (Aeromexico and Mexicana Airlines); Tijuana (Aeromexico). Puerto Vallarta can also be reached by cruise ship. It is a major cruise line destination with several carriers arriving each week. Traveling by road is an exciting, yet challenging, way to arrive. Puerto Vallarta is approximately 1,050 miles from the Nogales, Arizona border, which is the quickest border passing in a direct route taking toll highways. After passing through the free zone, proof of vehicle ownership, Mexican insurance, valid driver's license, vehicle return bond, and proof of citizenship is necessary to proceed. The trip takes two to four days, depending on driving habits. There are plenty of gas stations and small hotels along the way. The vast majority of travel is through the extremely hot Sonora Desert. State and federal police conduct numerous inspections, especially at state lines. The highway is four lanes until you reach Mazatlan, where traffic slows considerably. All routes of travel require proof of citizenship to cross the border. Current passport, birth certificate or a voter registration card are all valid means of identification for passage into Mexico. |
