The Rio Cuale, a gentle rolling river that runs through the center of town.
In the middle of this river is a small island that is home to several shops, beautiful riverside restaurants, the Cuale Museum where one can examine archeological findings from the region. The John Huston Plaza is also located on the island and pays tribute to the man whose movie "Night of the Iguana" put Puerto Vallarta on the world stage.
A small shaky wood plank and cable footbridge crosses one side of the river to the mainland, and is used as a shortcut to the other side of town.
