Huichol The Huichol are the largest group of indigenous people native to the Puerto Vallarta area, especially Tepic, San Blass and Santiago Ixcuintla, where important Huichol centers are located.

These proud people belong to one of the most ancient ethnic groups in Mexico. They have preserved their customs, language and religion by living high in the Sierra Madre Mountains.

Cultivating corn and raising cattle is their means of living along with the production of beautiful art. Made from vibrant yarn, beads, yams, wood as well as animal skins they create intricate figures and amulets that are traditionally used by their Shamans in religious practice.

The Huichol are famous for their use of peyote buttons, which induces a hallucinogenic state that they believe helps them to communicate with their gods.
