Century XXI
As we enter into the 21st century, Vallartans are filled with excitement and confidence. The region has been experiencing some of the best years of its youthful tourism career and the future looks both challenging and full of promise. We have looked back in the two previous sections at what has helped shape Puerto Vallarta into an international tourist destination tracing the milestones that mark the pivotal points in the town’s tourism history. These were major shifts that created a different frame of mind amongst the people of Puerto Vallarta as to what should its future entail. Somewhere along the way it was learned that people found this place interesting, worthy of traveling to and wonderful to live in. This has created a community that is no longer just made up of many of the descendents of the first settlers from San Sebastián, Mascota and Talpa. Today Puerto Vallarta is truly international, with people from all over the world now calling it “home”. The community’s excitement for the future is based upon facts, projects and realities that are the platform for its growth into international acclaim.

Siglo XXI
Con la entrada al siglo XXI, se percibe entre los vallartenses una atmósfera de júbilo y esperanza. La región está experimentando quizá los mejores años de su corta carrera en el turismo y el futuro encierra retos y promesas. En los capítulos anteriores recogimos los momentos clave que propiciaron el surgimiento de Puerto Vallarta como destino turístico a nivel internacional y que fomentaron una nueva actitud entre la población. De repente se supo que muchos encontraban el lugar interesante, digno de ser visitado e ideal para fincar un hogar. Esto se expresa hoy en una comunidad donde los descendientes de los primeros pobladores originarios de San Sebastián, Mascota o Talpa conviven con gente de todo el mundo. Hoy, el optimismo de los vallartenses frente al futuro se basa en hechos, proyectos y realidades que constituyen la plataforma para su escalada hacia el reconocimiento internacional.
