Lifestyles Profile - Marilu Suarez Marilú Suárez was born in Venezuela; she studied journalism in Caracas and then went on to a masters degree in the US. She lived in Washington for five years working for the Mexican Tourist Council and then went to work for a time-share company in Miami. Finally, in 1989, she came to Vallarta to collaborate in the opening of a new hotel invited by one of the owners (whom she would later marry). Love, true love, is a creative, inspiring force; and although Marilú is a natural and indefatigable achiever, her energy flows better when her heart is involved. The opportunity to show her best colors presented itself in the form of two very successful books The Magic of Vallarta and Discover Puerto Vallarta, a fine guide of our town and its surroundings. Both books share the same ingredient: a genuine enthusiasm for a town which she describes in the candid, fun way that a friend would use to share her discoveries in a foreign land. Marilú defines The Magic of Puerto Vallarta as the crystallization of a dream; a dream she shared with the likes of John Youden (our publisher) and John Welzenbach (a well-known photographer). "Publishing a book is not what I would call a very good business; it is mainly an adventure, a lovely undertaking." In addition to the research implied in the writing of a book that is also her greatest source of delight, Marilú enjoyed walking up and down the cobblestone streets in town and hiking up the mountains with her photographers in search of the most spectacular views or the most eloquent faces. Her love for Vallarta is sincere, she considers it to be one of the most enchanting places in the world, and, inasmuch as she has discovered the magic of Vallarta, her views of our town are worthy of our keenest regard.
