Lifestyles Profile - Lynne Bairstow I was delighted to hear that our editorial department had chosen to profile Lynne Bairstow in this issue of Vallarta Lifestyles. Having known her for nearly 10 years, I thought this would be an ideal time for me to write the profile myself, as my admiration and respect for her is only overshadowed by my gratitude in having her as a personal friend. She probably should have been featured much sooner than this, but I'm glad we waited, as she has added so many new accomplishments to what is already a long list. And the way she is going, we'll probably have to make the profile an annual event! Her love and commitment to Puerto Vallarta began when she left her "other life" in New York's financial scene and traded it for a life in the tropics, as editor of Vallarta Today. This is when we first met as fellow publishers of local English publications. She left for a brief time in 1994, after being introduced to and seduced by the potential of the Internet. These were the early years of the World Wide Web, and she jumped on this wave early and has been riding it ever since. While in Chicago building websites, she also began working with the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board, becoming their international public relations representative, a position she was to hold for five years. Her efforts here, I believe, are very much responsible for the success Puerto Vallarta has had in recent years. She returned to Puerto Vallarta in 1996, and opened up a business out of her home offering public relations services to others as well as the tourism board. In 1998 Lynne began co-authoring the Frommer's Guide to Mexico, which led to her receiving this year Mexico's most coveted award for journalism in tourism, the Pluma de Plata, presented personally to her by President Zedillo. And most recently she became the editor of a new start-up publication called e-com that focuses on business-to-business Internet strategies of major international corporations. Although the magazine is published and distributed in the United States, she does it all from Puerto Vallarta! Puerto Vallarta is very fortunate to have Lynne, for she really could be doing what she does nearly anywhere. Why does she do it here? Simply, she just loves Puerto Vallarta! | |
