Profile - June RosenOver 30 years of practicing this exquisite craft, June has refined her technique to the point where she allows her imagination to take flight unbridled. The results are pieces that seduce diverse personalities or are suitable for different moods and moments. After finishing school, June (originally from New Jersey) came to Mexico to learn Spanish. She stayed in the country (now she speaks Spanish perfectly) and soon after started working with the world-famous silversmiths of Taxco "the paradise for jewelers" who had worked with legendary silver designer William Spratling. June alternated her time in Taxco (three years) with seasons in New York where another Mexican teacher contributed to the blossoming of her creativity. June works a lot with silver; and it is no wonder. On one of her trips to Mexico, she discovered Yelapa where she lived for six years and where she still spends weekends at the home she built for her and her son. When you go into her new gallery located next to her home on Pino Suarez 373 Condominiums Loma del Mar, Colonia Emiliano Zapata you will discover there are three different Junes: one, more baroque or Victorian, whose pieces of soft curves and luminous pearls play a subtle note. Then there's the modern June, worshipper of pure lines in metal and dazzling shine in stones. And because June is an anthropologist also, her ethnic pieces find a more profound language to express their message of beauty. Twice a year June exhibits her jewelry at the Museum of Natural History of New York and at the Lincoln Center in the same city. |
