Lifestyles Profile - Carlos Osuna PennA well-bred gentleman, Carlos Osuna Penn is also a living example of a new social trend: multiculturalism. Although during the sixties this was not an easy way to be raised in Mexico City, where nationalism was rampant, he is now grateful for his education that allows him to understand both the Mexican viewpoint - his father's legacy - and the perspective of his mother, an American citizen. Born into a family of business people, Carlos had to sacrifice his love for anthropology to study Economics at Yale University where he met Ernesto Zedillo. Years later, the President would invite him to participate in his team. "I love politics, but I would not make a good politician, I wear my heart on my sleeve and I'm incapable of saying something I know is not true." Instead, he left for India where he practiced meditation for six months. After this soul-searching journey and with the plans of becoming an artist, Carlos settled down in San Francisco. The fate of his artistic endeavors is an enigma; what we know is that, in order to put some food on the table, he started selling member-ships for a spa. To his surprise he sold well, very well, indeed; and when he moved to Dallas he was ready to work for the second most important real estate agency in the Southwest. From the owner of this company he learned the moral values that have marked him throughout his career. He also learned about engineering, urbanism, legislation and financial matters and keeps his broker's license valid up to this day. In 1988 he came to Vallarta, where his parents had bought land above Las Gemelas beach (the most beautiful one in PV). Carlos Osuna senior had taken part in developing Marina Vallarta, but his dream was to build his own piece of paradise: Sierra del Mar. His son has been instrumental in administrating and selling the homes and sites in this extraordinary property. Carlos' six-year old marriage to Marieva Rodríguez has helped to open the hearts and homes of the Vallartenses strengthening his feeling of belonging to this town.
