Profile - Mary Sue MorrisMary Sue Morris was born in Amarillo, a land of cowboys and Cadillacs, and from the red skies of a Texan sunset she came to the sunshades of Puerto Vallarta for that perfect family vacation in 1970. Her fun-loving spirit made her keep coming back for that combination of what she calls the funky and the glamorous, while her children enjoyed climbing and donkey rides. Spurred by this love of contrasts, she traveled throughout Central and South America on a chicken bus in her 20s, after graduating from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Travel brought her to the city of Antigua in Guatemala, where she would eventually establish a hotel called Posada del Ángel and her first jewelry shop. Her background and acute perception have made her the perfect connection between two poles, the artisan and the buyer. Mary Sue selects the designer to bring that delightful trinket or jewel to her now-familiar PuertoVallarta, where she opened her second store, Viva Collection, three years ago. She believes accessories and jewelry can make all the difference, because they reflect personality, and enjoys observing the shopping moment when clients choose that little gift or a precious gem. Its fun, she says. It sparks peoples playfulness. And she gets to make that personal association between the designer and the recipient, closing her polar circle. She is very interested in modern designs for their innovative creativeness and comments you can find wonders in both price and style to suit any particular occasion. However, there are those special jewels that require no connection and only happen once. She remembers her mothers wedding ring with a classic filigree of the 50s as one of a kind. As in her taste for jewelry, Mary Sue loves to alternate and, when she feels that amusing craving for opposites, she still likes to head south to the colonial city Antigua, where she has found the sacredness of old tradition, something that she still reveres. She has made two special bonds to the south and hops between Puerto Vallarta, a place she calls her home, and an exotic Guatemala. |
