Mary Lou RidingerLifestyles Profile - Mary Lou Ridinger

Mary Lou Ridinger’s relationship with Mexico started in San Miguel de Allende, where her mother moved in 1958, drawn by her adventurous spirit. And this was just the beginning of this archeologist’s story, which borders on the fantastic. While studying at the University of the Americas in Cholula, Puebla, Mary Lou immersed herself in the profundities of Mayan mythology and mathematical calculus, attracted by the synchronicity of space and time, something that would have great significance in her life, as she was to find the missing link, another Mayan enthusiast whom she married, and together they would discover the fortunes of life and a lost Mayan mine in her ethereal Guatemala.

The mine unveiled its treasure in the form of “jadeittte”, a mineral term that defines white jade in its purest form. From the wonders of the mine, the Ridingers turned to studying pre-Columbian designs. They put a lot of effort into restoring ancient Olmec trade routes and, with time, established eight commercial landings in Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Puerto Vallarta under the name of Jades Maya. They were also granted authorization by the National Museum of Anthropology and History to reproduce many indigenous treasures.

They suffered calamities of every kind, from earthquakes to hurricanes and military coups. Mary Lou still cannot believe her fate and thinks that such divine intervention can only respond to the jade in her life, which she praises for the spiritual values it has bestowed on her. Her peace of mind is reflected in her words, tangible and transparent, and she claims that, after such hazardous adventures, living on the edge has only drawn her closer to the center. Though she gravitates between the States and Central America, her family is her nucleus and Mayan culture her divine orbit. Nothing is more real to her than the observation and enjoyment of nature when she finds that moment of solace in this agitated and modern world.
