Profile - Prof. Enrique Barrios Limón
Folkloric Dance Organizer
By Josef Kandoll
Our local folkloric dance group, Xiutla Ballet, is an “ambassador
not only of Mexican culture and tradition, but also of Puerto Vallarta,”
says professor Enrique Barrios Limón.
After 50-some years of involvement in dance, the professor founded the
troupe here in Puerto Vallarta.
This year, on their tenth anniversary, the Xiutla Ballet (“Xiutla,”
the original name of this region in Nahua, means “place where
the plants grow”) performed in their second triumphant international
tour.
Previously feted at the Santa Barbara Hispanic Festival, this year they
were invited to Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, BC. The dancers say
their life has been changed by the way he made them work. Putting on
dancing shoes is more than just learning the moves.
