Lifestyles Profile - Daniel Espinosa Daniel Espinosa de los Monteros is a renowned Mexican jewelry designer, whose success is shaped by the sensual and versatile elegance of his designs. Raised in Taxco, cradle of silversmiths, he spent his teens learning the craftsmanship and manufacturing of this precious metal. Those were also the days when he heard the sounds of the Beatles’ “Love, Love Me, Do”, and his designs speak of himself, of this delightful inheritance and his eclectic style–whether chic or à le style Coco Chanel, extravagant or romantic–his delicate and ductile sensitivity is full of Postmodern flair. Addicted to change and modernity, he is a son his age. He tempered his craftsmanship in Florence, where he studied Art History, and pursued other fields of knowledge, such as fashion and marketing, in Holland and Denmark, reaching his highest academic achievement in jewelry design at the Gemeological Insitute of America. Among multiple other interests, he is a successful entrepreneur, with nine jewelry boutiques in Mexico and four others in Europe and the United States. However, it is in Puerto Vallarta that he has found a public that buys his most seductive extravaganzas, a phenomenon that he finds striking and believes is due to the town’s cosmopolitan nature. His personal search for changes and design trends translates into movement, shine and originality in his designs, which have been described as “geometrical figures portrayed” in one of his latest collections, Hielo Mate. His love for fashion is apparent in his motifs and the versatility of his designs, which may hang sensually, intertwine enigmatically or chain romantically bead by bead. His inspiration also transforms everyday objects into sparkling frivolity. For example, his new computer mouse, wittily commercialized as the mouse that sips champagne and nips Gruyere, resembles a shining space helmet. However, women–like silver–are his center of attraction, with femininity his passion and quest in design. Any exotic circumstance or condition is transformed into a dart of seduction in silver and precious stones, whether sophisticated, retro or neo-punk. A born and convinced Sagittarius, he is a son of his sign, hooked on the moment.
