Picnic:
The Chiles legacy lives on! Over a decade ago, Hank Muffett and Conrad Kostelecky set shop in Puerto Vallarta, offering basic, yet very well put-together hamburgers, bbq chicken and other comfort food staples at Chiles, their casual lunch and early dinner restaurant. Their decision to close after many years of service left a huge gap in the Olas Altas neighborhood. Young entrepreneur Luis Alonso Téllez saw a good opportunity. Going on the premise of "if it ain't broken, why fix it?" he acquired the original recipes and secured the services of chef Valentín Anica, who had worked with Hank and Conrad for years, opening Picnic not even a block away from the original Chiles location, in October, 2006. For those familiar with Chiles, stepping into Picnic is like visiting an old friend. And for those new to the concept, Picnic offers delicious burgers, bbq chicken and ribs which, along with the burgers also earned this hip eatery a finalist mention in the "Best Takeout Place" category. An expanded evening schedule starting October, along with live music, cocktails and an increased dessert selection, not to mention the original recipes that started it all, are likely to maintain Picnic in the top list of casual lunch and dining choices in and around Olas Altas.
