 “Recuerda Quién Eres” (Remember Who you Are), reads the message in a colorful mural located on the right just as you enter El Centro from the north. It was created by Chase, a successful Belgian artist, along with his talented colleague, Blue. In just 10 days, these graffiti artists transformed four previously neglected public walls around town, covering their rough surfaces with modern, trendy figures, an open invitation to explore one’s inner child, a distinct aspect of the artists’ credo.
The project was the inspiration of Puerto Vallarta resident Alejandra Macedo, who became acquainted with the artists’ work while visiting Los Angeles, where their public art creations are ubiquitous. Upon return, she sought and promptly received support from several individuals, among them Abel Villa of Hotel Buenaventura; Marcelo Alcaraz, head of the Municipal Tourism office; and Karina Amutio from De Santos; as well as that of COMEX, which provided paint to bring this unique project to fruition.
