Dolphins and Sea Lions
Pacific bottlenose dolphins and the people that care for them are creating a greater understanding and appreciation of marine mammals and the environment we share. There are perhaps no more than half a dozen facilities throughout the world that offer such a once-in-a-lifetime interactive experience. It is a chance to really learn about these enchanting and gentle creatures.
And perhaps equally exciting, is the opportunity to interact with both South American and California sea lions. These intelligent and playful whisker-faced mammals are as social as dolphins and our area offers opportunities to interact with them in land based marine facilities and in their natural playground, the beautiful Pacific Ocean itself.
It’s not that I don’t love working in an office enveloped in artificial light, but as a free spirit and fun-loving, outdoorsy kind of girl, I’m always eager for an adventure that takes me out of the office and into the sunshine — all in the name of research, of course! Sea lions have fascinated me since my childhood, their cute dog-like faces and antics reminding me of a seafaring golden retriever.
