Capturing the charisma and vibrant energy of Mexico's authentic folkloric performers — specifically Puerto Vallarta's wonderfully talented dance troupe Xiutla — a pair of dynamic, life-size bronze statues will soon grace the new Malecon extension. Local sculptor Jim Demetro, who with his wife Eva lives both in Puerto Vallarta and the United States, has some 35 monumental public works of art on display in that country and has long wanted to express his love of Puerto Vallarta in the same way. While this installation of a youthful couple joyously performing traditional Mexican dance has been approved by the City, there is no funding for it. So to raise the money required to complete it by casting the dancers in bronze, he is offering limited-edition, 14-inch-high miniatures of the original. To view this work in progress or to make a donation, contact Demetro at 322-222-3411, extension 601.
