US Navy Performs a Community Service

In lieu of spending the day on a gorgeous Puerto Vallarta beach, 15 USS JARRETT crew members painted the walls of a local orphanage, as well as distributing toys and playing with its residents, who range in age from infants to teenagers. Now in its 14th year, Casa Hogar Maximo Cornejo relies on private donations and charity organizations to keep going, the local Navy League chapter supporting it by arranging this community relations project, as it has many others. The Navy League regularly hosts members of all visiting navies and promotes charitable projects, the Mexican Navy also very much involved. As it turns out, this was not the first time USS JARRETT crew brought smiles to young Vallartense faces; a plaque dated 1995 with that ship's crest on it hangs in the Casa Hogar office.
