Town Loses its Official Historian
It's a wonderful thing when a person loves their hometown so much that they devote their life to sharing its history and culture with others, as did Vallartense Carlos Mungia Fregoso, who died suddenly December 2, just three months after his beloved wife of 42 years, the beautiful artist, Elena. He was 66 and she 62. Along with their three children and grandchildren, Mungia leaves a legacy of irreplaceable old photos and fascinating stories about the Vallarta of yesteryear, publishing several books and setting a great example by his extensive community involvement. Formerly in charge of the municipal culture department, he was the current president of Vallarta's Los Mangos public library and the one everyone turned to for information, frequently participating in local cultural events and discussions and beloved by all.
