In just three years, this fund raising event organized by US Consul Kelly Trainor and the Marriott CasaMagna has become one of Vallarta's most important and well attended. Held as it is every year, on the gardens of the hotel overlooking the ocean, the May 21 affair was an outstanding success. It raised $435,500 pesos (about $40,000 USD) that was divided equally between 20 local charities. Earmarked for non-administrative purposes, the monies were disbursed June 6 at the Marriott — a senior citizen's home, food bank, orphanages, the public library and the Salvation Amy among recipients. Some 1,700 people bought tickets to enjoy a wonderful Sunday evening of being wined, dined and entertained as if at a fancy garden party. And all 20 charities had booths set up so that everyone could get to know more about the work they do. More than 40 local restaurants, cafés, bakeries, beverage companies, dance troupes and so on donated their time, energy and products.
