The former silver-mining town of San Sebastian del Oeste recently relased its Summer Music Fest 2007 concert schedule, to take place July 28 and 29. Organized by Fundacion Cultural del Real y Minas de San Sebastian, A.C., this is the perfect occasion to escape Puerto Vallarta's summer heat and discover new beautiful places surrounding the bay (San Sebastián is approximately two hours away from Puerto Vallarta by car). Among the sponsors of San Sebastian Music Fest 2007 are Guadalajara’s University, Jalisco’s Tourism Office, and San Sebastian del Oeste's City Hall. The Festival will feature two concerts to take place at San Sebastian's beautiful main plaza church, one offered by the Blas Chamber Orchestra from Guadalajara, and one by Quark Ensemble, a string quartet composed of several soloists from the orchestra.

The Quark performance will be of particular interest. Following the tradition of avant-garde string quartets such as Chronos and Turtle Island from the United States, Quark will feature ecclectic arrangements of top-40 hits by renowned rock groups such as The Beatles, The Doors and others. Blas Chamber Orchestra will focus on a baroque and classical repertoire but will include "Alejandra," a waltz by contemporary composer Enrique Mora.
