PV's Public Library Celebrates Ninth Anniversary

To thank the community for its support and ongoing involvement, Biblioteca Los Mangos held an Open House November 25, following a used book fair every day for the four days prior. An audience of about 300 enjoyed lively demonstrations by young people, whose skills were learned at the library's various workshops - guitar, piano, folkloric ballet, flamenco and classical dance among them. A plaque was presented to Vallarta's official historian and library president Carlos Munguia Fregoso in honor of his late wife; veteran Vallarta art teacher Lucille Shipley in turn presenting the library with the the late Bernice Starr's last painting, which her students completed. Starr was the driving force behind making this attractive facility a reality nearly a decade ago. The Puerto Vallarta Public Library depends on donations to provide important community services, including reading materials in both English and Spanish, language classes and art exhibitions.
