PV Marks World Environment Day
Its theme Give Earth a Chance, June 5 is the UN-mandated day to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment. Calling on every one of us to contribute to the healing of our planet, here in Vallarta where the breathtaking pace of construction is raising urgent environmental issues, we will celebrate for several days. Calling it Environmental Awareness Week, interested parties, including the Ecology Group, the University of Guadalajara and others, have organized a wide range of free events — conferences, seminars, exhibits and more — to promote the understanding that communities and the individuals comprising them are pivotal to changing attitudes. Saturday June 3, from 10 am to 8 pm, the esplanade of the municipal stadium across from the Sheraton is the place to be. On Sunday, June 4, there will be a cultural-civic event in Parque Lazaro Cardenas from 2 - 6 pm in defense of this park, whose future is in imminent jeopardy. And at 7 pm, everyone is invited to parade from the Sheraton to the Los Arcos amphitheater on the Malecon. There, from 7 to 10 pm, a festival will feature folkloric dance, a jazz group, poetry readings and other performances.
