Puerto Vallarta Celebrates Its Anniversary With Mariachi
Puerto Vallarta's Culture Department has prepared a special mariachi concert May 31st to celebrate the double anniversary of Puerto Vallarta, 89th as municipality and 39th as a city. The concert will commence at 9 pm when violins, guitars and trumpets of three great Mexican Mariachis bring joy with their traditional music to the Malecon area for a monumental three-hour performance. The featured mariachi bands are Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan, Mariachi Los Toritos and Mariachi Navidad, three great interpreters of Mexican music with many years as international cultural ambassadors of our country.
The 13-piece Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan was founded in 1965 by Pepe and Fernando Martinez, quickly rising to become one of the best in the entire country and winning international accolades. Once called one of the best mariachis in the world as a result of several international tours, Mariachi Los Toritos has an impressive catalog of musical recordings and trophies like Venezuela's Trofeo Mara de Oro. Finally, Mariachi Navidad has been in existence for 35 years and an equally impressive discography. The free concert, a great opportunity to experience a truly Mexican fiesta, will be followed by the traditional midnight fireworks.
