May Music Festival Expands its Focus
The heart of town will be filled with good free music May 12 through May 17 during Puerto Vallarta's third-annual, city-sponsored May Music Festival. At a press conference detailing what we can look forward to, municipal art and culture head Manuel Santana had a couple of big pieces of news: To appeal to a more diverse audience, rock and electronic music will be performed this year, as well as the jazz and classical music we have previously enjoyed. And all performances will be transmitted live on the Internet at www.culturavallarta.com from 7 - 11 pm. (The first hour of the transmission will be interviews with that night's performers.) All festival performances will be at the Aquiles Serdan outdoor amphitheater (commonly called Los Arcos) on the downtown Malecon. PV's talented folkloric dance troupe, Xiutla, opens the festival May 12, all performances are free of charge. And as it turns out, the last three nights of the festival will be particularly festive, because they overlap with Vallarta Lifestyles' Restaurant Week May 15 - 31!
