Maritime Terminal Abuzz with Activity
It's a good thing that work is well underway on the nearly $16 million USD expansion to Puerto Vallarta's marina, since just this month there have already been three occasions when it hosted four ships simultaneously. At present, two piers accommodate cruise liners, with three tender docks temporarily being used for this purpose when required. Local port authorities say the anticipated completion date for both a third pier and reconstruction of an existing one is December 2006, the facility then capable of welcoming passenger ships of up to a thousand feet in length at all three. This resort destination is proving an increasingly attractive anchor port, passengers are not only taken with its beauty, but delighted with the convenience of being able to chose from a wide variety of well-organized excursions to the jungle, beaches, nearby villages and more, as well as city and shopping tours. While 164 cruise ships visited in 2003 and 210 in 2004, this year some 260 are expected.
