July Parking Lot Opening Anticipated
The 304-vehicle, four-story parking structure now being built on the site of the former Benito Juarez Park should be operational in three months, says Urban Planning Director Carlos Manzano Zepeda. Following on the heels of the recently opened parking lot where Hidalgo Park used to be, this one will accommodate 2.5 times as many vehicles, alleviating the severe parking shortage in El Centro. In addition, there will be approximately 30 commercial spaces, and vendors from both former parks will be permitted to set up on the ground floor. Ever since Hidalgo and Benito Juarez parks were dismantled, the vendors formerly located there have been disbursed to various locations. And now some will be returning to their former location, albeit with a much different ambiance. This parking structure is located on Morelos, where it curves before turning into Ignacio Vallarta at the southbound bridge.
