Jalisco and Nayarit Delighted with Mexican Olympics Results
The state where Puerto Vallarta is located had the largest number of winning athletes at this year's national Olympics in Acapulco May 12 - 16, Jalisco youth bringing home 229 gold, 182 silver and 200 bronze medals. Thirty-five states in the republic competed in some 40 sports — weight lifting, boxing, hockey and cycling among them. And Nayarit, which co-shares the Bay of Banderas with us, was especially proud of two of its novice sailors, Manuel Dussault Gomez and Paul Alejandro Moreno McCarthy from the Vallarta Yacht Club's newly formed Junior Program, who placed in the top half of their class and well ahead of that in the overall competition of 104 sailors. Founded in 2005, the VYC recently hosted the Mexican Optimist Association qualifying race for the North American and European Championships, the Junior Program coach, Alizée Renée Berry, herself was a French national-ranked Optimist sailor. This program is available to all youths 8 - 14 on Banderas Bay. For more information contact Alizée at (322) 222-8771 or VYC director Dan Green at greenlr@aol.com
