 Twenty local non-profit associations received a check for $30,175 pesos each from the International Altruism Festival organizers to support their projects. The latest Festival took place last May 6th at CasaMagna Marriot, raising a total of $603,500 pesos thanks to over 1700 visitors and locals who attended the fundraiser organized by US Consular Agent Kelly Trainor and the aforementioned hotel.
This important annual event received additional support by entertainments groups, donors, volunteers, and restaurants such as Archies Work, Brasil, Hacienda Alemana, Kaiser Maximilian, Pie in the Sky, Mezzogiorno, Daiquiri Dicks, Xocodiva, Trio, Vitea, Frascati, River Café & Mestizo, Mark's Bar & Grill, La Petite France, Cilantros, Los Xitomates, Portobello, Z Tai, Vista Grill, Quimixto, La Palapa, Barcelona Tapas, Agave Grill, The Coffee Cup, Café desArtistes, Thierry's Prime Steak House, Outback Steakhouse, among others.
Twenty organizations are selected as beneficiaries each year, either because they have previously participated in the event in accordance to its guidelines, or through a raffle-based selection process. This year, the organizations that benefited from the Altruism Festival were Asilo de Ancianos CAIA, New Life México, International Puerto Vallarta Friendship Club A.C., Discapacitados Vallartenses DIVAC, Pumas Futbol Soccer School, Down Foundation, Grupo Ecológico de Puerto Vallarta, Manos de Amor por Bahía A.C., Clínica de Rehabilitación Vallarta Santa Bárbara, Club de la Amistad La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Asilo San Juan Diego, Casa Hogar Máximo Cornejo, Ayuda a los Animales, Ejercito de Salvación, A.C., Torpedos A.C, Toys for Tots, Arturo y lo Hijos de Dios, Rey Nayar Public Library, Los Mangos Public Library, and Proyecto Pitillal Busca un Amigo.
The International Altruism Festival has quickly become a new Puerto Vallarta tradition and always takes place during the month of May. The date for 2008 has not been defined, but information will become available in one of the Marriott's local portals: www.vipmarriottpv.com. By Juan Pablo Hernández
