This event coincides with the 90th Puerto Vallarta Anniversary celebration of officially becoming a city.
Free Spay/Neuter Clinics on the North Shore: Ayuda a los Animales, a free spay/neuter program under the umbrella of Peace, has hired a full time vet, Dr. Anthony Garcia Carrillo. During the month of May, there will be free spay/neuters available in Valle Dorado, Bucerias, Porvenir and San Juan de Abajo. It is important to note that adult animals should have fasted for eight hours before their procedure and puppies and kittens for four hours.
Puerto Vallarta Cultural Celebrations in May: To celebrate its 90th anniversary as municipality and city, Puerto Vallarta City Hall headed by Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal, has prepared a special cultural calendar of events entitled May Fest 08, to honor the city and its people. May Fest 08 will include a performance by Carsten Daerr Trio Jazz, on May 18 at 8:00 pm at NH Krystal.
Recicla Parque, A Special “entreamigos” Project in San Pancho: Recicla Parque is an initiative of the entreamigos (Between Friends) group, to build a playground in San Pancho, Nayarit, which will be constructed almost entirely out of recycled materials. It builds on the tremendous success of the recycling initiative at the elementary school and helps turn all of that amazing energy towards creating a safe, beautiful and much needed playground for children.
Free Mosaic Workshop to Help Children in San Pancho: Would you like to know what to do with all those old tiles and beach glass that you have been collecting? Well here is your chance to learn how to use them to create mosaic works of art while helping a great charity. On May 24th, people from all over the Bay of Banderas will be gathering in San Pancho to build a park for the kids of that area totally out of recycled materials.
Spring Session Classes Offered at the Bucerias Bilingual Community Center: The Bucerias Bilingual Community Center offers a variety of classes, to enrich the lives of both children and adults. Three beginning Spanish classes are being offered. Sean Mulvaney teaches on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.

Puerto Vallarta City Hall Commemorates Manuel Lepe: On April 17, 2007 the local City Hall, relatives and friends paid homage to Puerto Vallarta painter Manuel Lepe, who was a precursor of Naif art and an avid promoter of this city. Mayor Javier Bravo said that Lepe had a fate in pursuing the arts and he became an internationally renowned artist, who reflected the paradise of our municipality into his beautiful paintings.
Fashion Fest Spring-Summer 2008 to Benefit Make-A-Wish: Galerias Vallarta and Liverpool are pleased to present their Fashion Fest Spring-Summer 2008, on May 2 at 6:00 p.m. to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. All Liverpool stores in Mexico have two annual fashion shows to benefit charity organizations. Puerto Vallarta’s Liverpool outlet chose Make-A-Wish to start the local tradition.

Sixth National Charro Championships a Success: Thirty-eight teams competed in the successful Sixth National Charro Championships this past February. Puebla’s Hacienda Tamariz team returned home with the top award, which included over $200,000 pesos in prizes. Guadalajara’s Tres Potrillos team, owned by famous Mexican ranchero and mariachi singer Vicente Fernandez, also received notable awards.
"Lifestyles" Cover Art Now Limited-Edition Print: Talented artist Laurie Chase was inspired to paint “Beach Club Punta de Mita” because it epitomized to her the “essence and beauty of the Vallarta playa.” This enchanting painting was featured on the cover of the Winter/Spring 2008 issue of this publication. Subsequently, Chase produced a limited edition of 95 signed and numbered Giclée prints.
You Can Help Fulfill a Dream...: Alfredo Cervantes (known as Charlie to his Gringo friends) has a passion for golf and for teaching. A native of Mexico, Alfredo and his young family returned to Puerto Vallarta after 17 years of living in Southern California. Shortly after returning to the city that he loved in 1997, a tragic head-on collision with a local Vallarta bus occurred, forever changing Alfredo’s life.
