A Big Week for New Flights: For three days in a row this week, dignitaries, government officials, the press and those meeting passengers will welcome an inaugural flight to Puerto Vallarta: Delta's Atlanta-PV flight arrives at 8:45 pm December 15; the next day, December 16, Azteca's Mexico City-Guadalajara-PV flight arrives at 1:45 pm; and Frontier's Kansas City-PV flight touches down at 11:05 am December 17.

Processions Honoring Town's Patron Saint: While some find the heavier traffic December 1 - 12 frustrating, others are so delighted by the fervent Mexican flavor of the annual peregrinacions to honor the Virgin de Guadalupe - who is not only the patron saint of Puerto Vallarta, but of this country itself - that they find it a very small price to pay.

Theater Helps Kids Stay in School: Becas Vallarta, an important local charity here since 1962, provides partial scholarships to bright local youngsters who might otherwise be forced to drop out of secondary school or university due to lack of funds - many of the town's most high profile professionals enjoying their careers thanks to this program.

Toys for Tots Dinner: The seventh annual Toys for Tots charity fundraiser is fast approaching, a ticket to the gala dinner December 18 at the Marriott CasaMagna translating into gifts for 13 children whose families simply can't afford to buy them anything on Mexico's traditional day of gift giving, Three Kings Day January 6.

Town Loses its Official Historian: It's a wonderful thing when a person loves their hometown so much that they devote their life to sharing its history and culture with others, as did Vallartense Carlos Mungia Fregoso, who died suddenly December 2, just three months after his beloved wife of 42 years, the beautiful artist, Elena.

2006 International Half Marathon Announced: Next November 5, runners from Kenya, Russia, France, Hungary, Bulgaria, Canada, the United States, Mexico and more will compete in Puerto Vallarta's fourth annual 21-km half marathon and 5-km fun run, with the value of the cash prizes to be awarded twice that of the 2005 event.
