1st Salsa Festival “Fiesta Latina”: Salsa dancers rejoice! The first annual Salsa Festival”Fiesta Latina”, will be held at the old Sr. Frog’s location on Olas Altas, on May 4, 2008. Four famous and internationally recognized salsa orchestras will perform, including Adolescent’s Orquesta from Venezuela, Estrellas de Niche from Colombia and Chemaney and his Orchesta from Mexico.

Vallarta Botanical Gardens Commits to Research and Development: With an ongoing commitment to research and development, the Vallarta Botanical Gardens AC has been the recipient of generous grants and other forms of support from various sources. The San Diego County Orchid Society Conservation Committee has awarded $2500 USD for the establishment of a propagation and reintroduction program for threatened orchids.

Mexico Victorious at FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2008 Qualifier: Puerto Vallarta hosted the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2008 Qualifier CANCACAF, from April 17 - 20, 2008. Congratulations to Mexico’s Azteca beach soccer team, who defeated the USA team on the third day of the tournament, to earn a birth in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2008. This prestigious event will be held in Marseille in July.

Santa Barbara Summer Theater Camp for Children: Santa Barbara Theater teams up with Becas to help local children attend the Santa Barbara Summer Theater Camp. The Becas program will provide scholarship funds for children who would like to participate in the upcoming summer theater camp or dance classes but need financial assistance to do so. Summer camp will start July 7th and run through August 8th with a recital so the kids can show their stuff.

de Santos' Guadalajara Grand Opening: de Santos opened a new location in Guadalajara, Jalisco, on April 2, 2008, under the same philosophy that have made them famous in Puerto Vallarta since 1999, "because food tastes better with music." This Mediterranean-inspired food restaurant is also preparing the big opening of their next location in Soho, New York.

Join the Remote Control Flying Club in Banderas Bay!: A remote control flying club meets every Saturday, in a two-hectare space located in San Vicente, Nayarit, a little town along Banderas Bay. Previously, this club met in Rincon de Guayabitos, but will continue to meet in San Vicente. Flying remote control airplanes is a very involved hobby and is not only about flying.

Festival Nautico – Vallarta Race Week ‘08: In early March, the Vallarta Yacht Club hosted its second bi-annual Festival Nautico – Vallarta Race Week. The action packed week brought both high level and novice sailors to the fair winds of Banderas Bay and the shores of Riviera Nayarit.

Easter Week Beach Brigade to Prevent HIV: While Puerto Vallarta was host to thousands of visitors for Semana Santa, or Easter Week, the local non-profit Vallarta Enfrenta el SIDA, A.C. (Vallarta Confronts AIDS, in English) was busy spreading the word about HIV. Beginning on Thursday, a group of Vallarta Enfrenta el SIDA (VES) employees and volunteers visited with individuals, couples, and families on Los Muertos Beach.

The Passing of Sheila Devine: Well known Puerto Vallarta artist Sheyla Devine, recently pass away. She was born in New York in 1959 and her renowned expressionist style of painting was often highlighted with radiant colors. Devine attended New York State University and had exhibitions around the globe including Berlin, New York, Chicago, Guanajuato, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

Kiwanis to Support Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza: “Kiwanis One Day,” a global day of community service, is slated for Saturday, April 5, 2008 with Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza as the local benefactor. More than 600,000 Kiwanis volunteers across the globe will participate in this dedicated day of service in their local communities—and will donate more than one million volunteer hours in a single day.

Banderas Bay Regatta and MEXORC Results: In March of 2008, Puerto Vallarta hosted the MEXORC and Banderas Bay Regatta sailing events. The Mexican Ocean Racing Circuit (MEXORC) has been one of the most prestigious ocean sailing events since its inception in 1976.
