How Hurricane Wilma Effected PV Tourism

This is how tourism looked here this past November, according to Puerto Vallarta's Tourism Board:

Of every 100 tourists who arrived at the our international airport, 12 had originally planned to got to Cancun.

Of those who changed their plans and came here instead, 18% were from Mexico, 22.5% Canada, 55.9% the USA, 1.8% Europe and 1.8% elsewhere.

In comparison, of those who came here as they had intended, 5.9% were from Mexico, 17.7% Canada, 74.2% the USA, 1.4% Europe and .8% elsewhere.

Seventy percent of the tourists originally planning to go to Cancun had never been here before, compared to the 44% of our intended visitors.

Forty percent of the diverted tourists stayed in Nuevo Vallarta, compared to the 30% of arrivals normally staying there.

Tourists intending to come to Puerto Vallarta stayed an average of 7.86 days, while those diverted stayed an average of 7 days.

The average age of those diverted was 39.8 years, compared to the average age of a Vallarta tourist, 46.5.

Those originally destined for Cancun spent $90.70 USD a day here, compared to the $93.29 USD spent by the average Vallarta tourist.
