Efforts Intensify to Ensure Our Beaches Are Clean
Many tourists who come to Puerto Vallarta love nothing better than to play in the surf of our gorgeous Banderas Bay. So it's nice to know that along with the annual beach clean-up campaigns taking place here, there is a new, multifaceted campaign based on cooperation between federal, state and municipal institutions as well as the private sector and concerned citizens. "Limpieza Permanente de Playas y Rios" is to be a permanent solution, keeping not only our beaches, but our rivers and drinking water clean and healthy. A recent campaign kickoff event on the beach at Boca Negra saw mayors, state governors, business owners, citizens and students not only talk about these vital objectives, but actually roll up their sleeves and clean a section of beach between Marina Vallarta and the international airport. Among the pressing goals is to bring the water quality of all neighboring municipalities in line with that of Puerto Vallarta, which meets international water-quality standards, and to educate both children and their parents about the need to put trash in receptacles.
