Puerto Vallarta's City Hall will impose fines to any individual who knowingly and willfully throws garbage in the street, according to councilwoman Claudia V. Gomez. This new initiative in favor of ecological awareness pretends to sanction even those who waste a lot of water or people that smoke in offices and closed spaces.

In other municipalities it is a misdemeanor to place, deposit, dump, or throw garbage, into any river or street. While this is not the first time that Puerto Vallarta's municipal goverment attempts to implement this type of proposal, it is clear that newly-appointed officials will not carry on with a "business as usual" attitude. "Trash continues increasing, it is obvious that we have to do something," said Gomez.
