After the beach collapsed four years ago Hotel Barcelo, La Jolla de Mismaloya, will invest a half million pesos to recover its beach with a technique known as Geotubos by Marenter, a company working in conjunction to Semarnat, Mexico's secretary of natural resources. This technique will use river sand to fill the beach after building a retaining wall to avoid a new collapse. The recovery work will take seven weeksand is expected to be completed before year's end. Barcelo Manager Laurent Houdebine emphasized that the company who bought the hotel three years ago knew about the beach collapse before the transaction.
