In March of 2008, Puerto Vallarta hosted the MEXORC and Banderas Bay Regatta sailing events. The Mexican Ocean Racing Circuit (MEXORC) has been one of the most prestigious ocean sailing events since its inception in 1976. Competitors include the best of the Mexican and North American fleets. In its 32 years, this bi-annual race has had as many as 300 participants a year.
This year’s venue, here in beautiful Banderas Bay, included 3 distance races with a minimum course of 20 miles, and 2 days of buoy racing. Courses were designed to push tactical skills and boat speed for multiple classes of boats. After a week of competition, race results were celebrated during an elegant awards dinner held at the new Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. Competitors, friends and family enjoyed a gourmet buffet while listening to music by Mexico City’s symphony orchestra and the lights of Vallarta in the distance.
The competitors are already looking ahead to participate in the next MEXORC events in 2010. For further information, go to www.mexorc.com
