Altruistic Crusade to Help Needy Local Kids
Officially kicking off Saturday July 22, a six-month campaign to raise funds for Vallarta-area youngsters needing help. To inaugurate the crusade, Mayor Gustavo Villasenor will cut the ribbon at 7:30 pm at Puerto Vallarta's Plaza Hidalgo. And the four charities to whom the funds are designated will talk about about the services they provide. Sodas and snacks will be available — and most importantly, so will the campaign's white wristbands, to be sold all around town during the next six months at 20 pesos or about $2 USD each — the goal to generate some 2-million pesos or about $200,000. Beba Muniz, spokesperson for En3 Communication, the promoter of this crusade, says the crusade has some 15 sponsors, The River Café and Outback Steakhouse among them, with more encouraged to get involved. The proceeds will be divided equally, she says, between Pasitios de Luz, which provides daycare for disabled youngsters; Gente por Educacion, which helps those schools that need infrastructural improvements like running water or cement floors; Agape, which assists abused children; and Becas Vallarta, which provides scholarships to bright but economically needy young people. These non-profit organizations do this and much more to benefit our local kids, and could really use your help. www.cruzadaaltruista.com
