Debbi Egan, proud owner of Banana Cantina and Choco Banana restaurants located on the south side of downtown, is excited to announce their Season of Excellence. The creative culinary team at these favorite local eateries has worked hard over the past few weeks to create innovative flavor combinations and new dishes which will be highlighted in the evolving menu. They have also added some new twists to a few of the Banana Cantina signature dishes.
“We’re doing everything slowly to get everything right. This is our season of excellence!” beams Egan as she describes the evolution in Banana Cantina’s food offerings. The focus is to perfect the recipe for each dish and to prepare it consistently. That has meant weeks of experimenting, tasting, refining and altering the recipes to ensure excellence.
In the past, many patrons have asked for traditional Mexican food and freshly prepared fish on the menu, and Banana Cantina has answered in both categories. New to the menu this season are traditional Mexican dishes including Molletes (pictured), an open faced sandwich made with beans, grilled meat and melted cheese, served with guacamole and salsa. Another feature debuting this season, is the Catch of the Day, where the freshest local fish is prepared in the traditional Serandeado style or even marinated in tequila, garlic and white wine, before being lightly grilled.
Another addition to the menu is their Secret House Salsa. A bowl of this molcajete style sauce will be on the table for you to spice up your meal if you choose. The dinner menu will continue to feature Banana Cantina signature dishes such as Shrimp Spring Rolls, Avacado Enchiladas, Coconut Shrimp, exquisite homemade soups and of course their fabulous Margaritas.
And don’t forget Banana Cantina for breakfast and lunch too. Their new huevero (a word that literally means person who cooks eggs), can cook you up a tasty breakfast including menu items such as eggs, bacon, bagels and banana pancakes. In addition to the molletes for breakfast and lunch, enjoy a made to order quesadilla or mini hamburgers for lunch. At street level, the popular Choco Banana eatery will continue to serve their delicious chocolate covered frozen bananas and other light beverages and snacks, throughout the day and evening.
Watch for the return of Wednesday Charity Nights starting on November 26.
