Around 200 businessmen and social personalities enjoyed the gala dinner "To the Rescue of the Crown" at Velas Vallarta this past December 7. An auction featuring works of art and wines raised approximately 3 million pesos for Patronato de Amigos Vallartenses A.C. the organization in charge of overseeing the restoration of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church's crown. An additional five million pesos are required to strengthen the tower structure. Preliminary studies call for a new steel structure to insure that the crown will no longer deteriorate. Past dontations have been utilized for basic maintenance of the crown, as well as a much-needed exterior washing to prevent doves from nesting.
