Pie in the Sky Whips Out Miniature Cakes
Published Oct 14, 2009 -
Guess what? Good things do come in small packages! Pie in the Sky owner Susan Drexler had mentioned their mini art cakes to us and we had the opportunity to see (and taste!) them last week. For those not in the know, this bakery with two locations (one in Bucerías and one in the E. Zapata neighborhood) has been a Puerto Vallarta staple for over two decades.. One of their most popular treats, the Beso (kiss in English) is a lush, moist chocolate brownie without comparison. But in keeping with the times, Susan and her staff are constantly looking at ways to create new products to remain a favorite among locals and visitors. The mini art cake is one of such products, a delicious tiny cake, roughly 5 inches wide by 3.5 inches tall, perfect for four. Or if you like to indulge in your guilty pleasures, you can share it with only one person!
Drexler’s secret ingredient is Zulem Angel Mendoza, a young and inspired cake decorator who can whip out one of these, pun intended, in 30 minutes or less! As you can see from the image above, her style is quite versatile, ranging from very traditional flowery cakes, to very whimsical ones. (We understand they can even custom-design a logo for you!). Next time you find yourself on your way to a dinner party and wish to show up with a sweet something, this may very well be your best shopping choice!
