Best New Use for an Old Building: Maritime Museum-Main

When in downtown Puerto Vallarta, you can visit Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, stroll the Malecon and enjoy a beautiful sunset. And now you also can visit the Maritime Museum, which is sponsored by the Mexican Navy and opened its doors to the public last year.

In the past, this building located next to Los Arcos on the Malecon held the Port Authority office, the Navy hospital and, eventually, Navy headquarters. It is now remodeled and set up to host various historic exhibits.

The Maritime Museum has five exhibition rooms with a permanent collection of paintings, photos, documents, maps, scale models and navigational instruments. It also has documents on the discovery of the South Seas, expeditions to the Philippines and the Manila galleon trips.
