Advocating for the Animals

Vallarta's abandoned companion animals now have a light at the end of the tunnel, efforts being made on their behalf by the new government-registered SPCA of Puerto Vallarta.

Working in tandem with the local pound to make it a more well rounded and humane facility, it provides the Centro de Acopio Animal with funds for physical improvements, supplies and increased staffing, as well as holding a weekly adoption event at the Los Mangos Public Library of animals urgently in need of a second chance at life. All cats and dogs up for adoption have been fixed. Or, if still too young to undergo the operation, the new owner is given a pass to have it done at no charge. And volunteers do their utmost to place those animals not adopted in foster care until the following week.

The SPCA also networks on behalf of those who have lost or found pets, via the Internet and “Pet Tails,” a weekly column in the “Vallarta Tribune” newspaper. Furthermore, it has forged a close relationship with P.E.A.C.E. Mexico's Help the Animals, which focuses on extensive neuter and spay programs.
