The completion of the road to San Sebastian del Oeste immediately brought that picturesque mining town into view for local artists. Small planes bring daily visitors who tramp the cobblestone streets of the historic town, while others choose horses to explore the wooded hills, scene of those very silver mines and oh-so-many stories. Artist Meg Munro escapes to the mountains with her watercolors while working on a new series focused on San Sebastian. Long-time resident Bud Accord of the historical Hacienda Jalisco keeps hand-written records and yarns of visitors over the years. Artist/decorator Patti Gallardo and partner Wendy Johnson settled into an old house they’ve remodeled and redecorated to create a homey environment. Both residences are open to art groups, retreats and classes. And even in Puerto Vallarta, a recent talk gave increased importance to the long-forgotten history of the silver-mining area first settled in 1605.
