| Everyone finds Puerto Vallarta shopping fun because it’s so varied, not only in what you can buy, but in where you can find it. Distinctive art forms from all over Mexico await discovery in both ultra-modern and very traditional stores and galleries tucked intriguingly throughout Puerto Vallarta. The Municipal Flea Market with its bevy of colorful stalls is a tourist must, as is the downtown Malecon and the streets surrounding it, eye-poppingly rich with galleries, jewelry stores and designer shops specializing in casual wear. We’ve got several Puerto Vallarta shopping centers, department stores and supermarkets, as well as a traditional outdoor food market. And pharmacies – some open round the clock – sell many drugs over the counter that would require prescriptions up north.

Page 2 of 3 1 2 3  Purchasing Art Supplies in Puerto Vallarta: Art supplies in Vallarta are available primarily through two sources: Mexico Magico (formerly Xochitl) at Juarez 534 (222-5776), which is open Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm and 4 to 8 pm; and Pro-arte at Mexico 1197-A (across from Casa Ley, no telephone), which is open 10 am to 2 pm and 4 to 7 pm Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 1:30 pm on Saturdays.  Home Decorating in Vallarta: For the upcoming issue of “Costa Vallarta Luxury Living,” one of the editorial assignments was decorating and furnishing a condominium in Punta Mita using only items from stores located in the Costa Vallarta area.

 And Such a Bargain!: Haggling over price is generally expected in Mexico, but keep in mind that to bargain is not to argue; rather, it is a courteous discussion of price. For a good deal, it’s not necessary to be aggressive or obnoxious, just knowledgeable and determined.
 Supermarket Treasures: When is a Walmart not a Walmart? When you are in Puerto Vallarta, where along with "standard" fare you will find unexpected local treasures at this and other major supermarkets in town.
 Hot Spot: The Marina Vallarta Malecon: Peaceful and pretty and a world apart from the hurly-burly of town, yet just 15 minutes away, this is the perfect place for those who dare to dream.
 What’s in a Name, Anyway?: What’s in a name? Well, at the video store, a clue as to what movie we’re holding in our hands would be nice! Most of the movies in Puerto Vallarta were made in English and then translated for the Mexican market - and we certainly don’t mean literally - their titles sometimes differ so vastly from the originals that they boggle the mind.
 South Side Hot Spot: We dare you, double dare you, to say the name Basilio Badillo to the person next to you without hesitating — or peeking at its syllabic pronunciation below. Because this happening north-south street, also coined “Restaurant Row” and “Calle de los Cafés,” is one you will definitely want to discover again and again.
 Best Place to Get Branded: Cooper Tattoo: More and more visitors are discovering the advantage of getting a tattoo during their Puerto Vallarta vacation, namely significant savings when compared to prices up North.
 Best Commercial Makeover: Plaza Caracol: You’re in for a big surprise on your next visit to this popular 17-year-old plaza in Puerto Vallarta’s northern Hotel Zone, an incredible number of exciting recent changes and additions making it Banderas Bay’s most comprehensive plaza by far.
 El Centro Hot Spot: Just one block up from the Malecon, where folks stop to interact with the eclectic Colunga sculptures in front of Las Palomas restaurant, are some of this town’s best browsing, shopping and dining opportunities. And these businesses all have bilingual staff. So, while we can’t say enough good things about our wonderful oceanfront promenade, we encourage you to step away from it long enough to check them out.
