We met because of a tin-foil tiara. I was wearing it while celebrating something or other at the Red Cabbage five years ago, when in sauntered Shane Clabaugh with his entourage. As beautiful as any woman, eyes startlingly blue and the longest legs I’d ever seen, he took my breath away. So it seemed only right to go up to him, place it on his pretty blond head, and pronounce him Queen for a Day.

Well, little did I know. Turns out he’s one of the town’s most popular female impersonators! Performing a couple of nights a week for the past several years at The Palm (Olas Altas 508, South Side), black fishnets and Mary Jane pumps make the most of those gams; and, oh, what a saucy energetic show she gives! A potty mouth through and through — part high-spirited filly, torch singer and dock worker — when her raunchy gay antics aren’t cracking me up I’m sorely tempted to comply with the directive her stage name suggests.
