| Mayor to Promote Puerto Vallarta in the States Puerto Vallarta Mayor Gustavo González Villaseñor will travel next month to sister city Highland Park, Ill. to promote our destination. To that effect, the Municipal Tourism Office has partnered with Mexicana to charter a plane in which City Hall representatives will be joined by Ballet Xiutla, Vallarta’s folkloric dance troupe, and any individuals who wish to be part of the tour—an $800 USD package, which includes airfare, lodging and a gala dinner, has been prepared by the office of Municipal Tourism. A group of local representatives will also travel this week to strengthen ties with another sister city: Santa Barbara, Calif. |

| Adopt a Crocodile in Puerto Vallarta The University’s reptile center is offering yet another option for strengthening your ties with our destination: adopt a crocodile! The center has so far successfully bred 20 crocs in captivity, ensuring the survival of this protected species. The new adoption program allows you to name your crocodile, have a snapshot taken with it, as well as receive ongoing updates about its development, all this for $100 USD per year. | Major Investments Strengthen Vallarta as a Tourist Destination New department stores, hospitals and hotels that will be developed within the next two and a half years will continue to attract investors to Puerto Vallarta. This was recently announced by José Luis Díaz Borioli, director of Municipal Tourism. Generating thousands of new jobs, the new developments include two large department stores: Liverpool (Mexico’s Macy’s equivalent) and Soriana, Medasist and CMQ hospitals, three new hotels and a movie complex. |

| Raúl Di Blasio Writes a Song for Vallarta As a sign of gratitude for the warm reception he received during a recent performance in Puerto Vallarta, pianist Raúl Di Blasio has written a song honoring our city. Simply titled “Puerto Vallarta,” a music video of the eight-minute song has been produced and will be broadcast in promotional events where the city will be represented. Additionally, a shorter version will be broadcast on national television. |

| Puerto Vallarta Partners With New Sister Cities Puerto Vallarta added Mission, TX to its list of sister cities last week. Authorities and business representatives from Mission came to Puerto Vallarta last week to participate in an official City Hall ceremony. The goal is to increase cultural, educational and promotional awareness between both cities, as well as other cities in Texas. A similar partnership with Miami, FL is in the works, announced Puerto Vallarta Mayor Gustavo González Villaseńor. Other official sister cities include Santa Barbara, CA and Hyde Park, IL. |
Café des Artistes Hosts Mussel Fest Aside from their exquisite ongoing menu, Café des Artistes will host a unique Mussel Festival July 14 24. To that effect, special Mediterranean mussels harvested by a research team at the Baja California University in Ensenada have been flown to Puerto Vallarta. | Jalisco to Penalize Cell Phone Calls While Driving Drivers making cell phone calls while on the road will be fined in the state of Jalisco beginning next month, according to a new law issued by the state’s Transportation and Communications Commission. The law covers other points, such as traveling with babies or small children without a specially designed car seat and throwing garbage on the road or otherwise obstructing it. It is expected, however, that drivers will be allowed to take advantage of “hands-free” cell phones without fines. |

| Puerto Vallarta Cultural Fund Developed Manuel Santana Encarnación, Director of Culture for the city recently announced the development of a new foundation designed to sponsor cultural events. The group is comprised of several members of Puerto Vallarta’s business community, who at the time choose to remain anonymous, but are unanimously concerned about the continued development of cultural activities in the city. The initial efforts of this new foundation have proven successful, with the recent performances of the renowned Zacatecas State Band at Los Arcos and at NH Krystal last week, which required travel and lodging expenses for its 80 members, plus their musical instruments. |
